Questions houses actually ask.

Do my roommates all need the app?

Yes. Dotted works because the whole house is on it. Everyone signs in with Apple, Google, or email, and joins with your home's invite code. That's what lets each person claim their own items on a receipt, sign the rules, and vote.

How private are my receipts?

The reading happens on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device text recognition and on-device Apple Intelligence models. No cloud OCR service ever sees the photo. The photo itself is stored in private storage only your home can access. The extracted line items become the bill your roommates see. No ads, no selling data, no cross-app tracking.

Does Dotted hold my money?

No. Dotted keeps the math: who owes whom, in US dollars. When you settle up, it opens Venmo or Cash App with the amount and note already filled in, and the payment happens there.

What if someone never claims their items?

Nudge them from the bill. If they still don't claim, the payer can close out the receipt and either assign the leftovers or absorb them.

Are signed house rules a legal contract?

No. Signing in Dotted is about the house agreeing clearly, not about lawyers. What you decided is written down and signed, so later there's a record instead of competing memories.
